The plastic surgery industry has not been fashionable in feminist circles. Many claim it to be exploitative and destructive to women?s self-esteem. They are part-right. There are situations in which this kind of surgery can be beneficial and help people look better; but there are also many dangers involved.

The women who go to plastic surgeons in places like Hollywood don?t do it for beauty as much as they do it for glamour. Many people in Hollywood want to feel like stars. To a person who wants to feel like a star, four ways are available. One is to actually become a star. Another is to attach themselves to a star. Another is to take drugs that let them feel whatever they want to feel. And another is to get plastic surgery.

They go into swanky offices, where stars go all the time. They are met by adoring receptionists and are operated upon by famous surgeons. At its best, it can be an unforgettable experience. At its worst, it can become a toxic, destructive and outrageously expensive addiction.

The women in Hollywood do not suffer from lack of good genes. Many do, however, suffer from being impressionable. This leaves them prey for all sorts of scoundrels. These can be pimps, drug dealers, abusive boyfriends and, yes, the unscrupulous plastic surgeons who feed them the idea that they can?t be good-looking unless they keep coming back for more plastic surgery.

There are women who get addicted to plastic surgery and keep doing it. The results of this are disastrous. Their natural beauty becomes disfigured, and they start looking like monsters. That should not be surprising. Nature is, and remains, a better producer of beauty than even the best in plastic surgery; and artificial look is inferior to natural beauty.

Chances are, if you?ve done plastic surgery more than once or twice, then you?re on a wrong track. Whether it?s glamour that keeps bringing you back or the suggestions of plastic surgeons, you are being deceived. Real problems do not require many treatments to solve and can be solved with one or two treatments. If you?re doing it more, most likely you?re being had.

Plastic surgery can only be useful in some situations, but not as an ongoing way of life. There are other ways to experience glamour. As for beauty, women in Hollywood are not known for lacking in it and have little to gain and much to lose from a plastic surgery habit.

JetBlue pilot appears in court after hospital release

Capt. Clayton Osbon, the JetBlue pilot who experienced a breakdown in midflight last week and had to be subdued by passengers, will stay in jail until a detention hearing on Thursday, according to the?Amarillo Globe-News.?

Osbon was released from the Pavilion at Amarillo's Northwest Texas Healthcare System in handcuffs at 7:30 a.m CT, the paper reported.

Flight 191 was scheduled from John F. Kennedy Airport to Las Vegas, but was diverted to Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday. JetBlue suspended Osbon last week following the incident. He is charged with interfering with a flight crew and, if convicted, could face 20 years in prison.

Osbon's wife, Connye Osbon, said on Sunday that the pilot's family is focused on his recovery. She asked the media for privacy and said the family would not be granting interviews or making further statements. She said the family appreciated the public's concern.

"It is our belief, as Clayton's family, that while he was clearly distressed, he was not intentionally violent toward anyone," said astatement?by Connye Osbon on behalf of the Osbon family that was released by JetBlue on Sunday. "We know you were placed in an awful situation and we appreciate your ability to respond professionally."

JetBlue said in a?blog post?last week that it will not share further details about the captain's "private life."

NEW YORK (AP) ? Police say a woman who accused comedian Jackie Mason of roughing her up during a domestic dispute has been arrested on an assault charge stemming from the incident.

Police said Saturday that Mason's 48-year-old "companion" scratched and bruised his arm at around 6:30 a.m. Friday as he attempted to call a doorman to have her removed from his Upper East Side apartment.

Initially, police said the woman had reported being roughed up by the comedian, who's known for one-man shows on Broadway like "Politically Incorrect." Mason hasn't been charged.

It wasn't immediately clear if the woman had a lawyer. A phone number listed under her name wasn't in service.

Football: Petrov retires due to cancer

Aston Villa captain Stilian Petrov has told Bulgarian media he has retired from football to focus on his battle with cancer.

Villa announced on Friday (local time) that the Bulgarian international has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

But Petrov has vowed to fight for his life, telling Tema Sport: "I am now beginning to fight for my life and I will fight. Football is over, this is the end."

Petrov said he had felt a strange headache during the first half of Aston Villa's defeat against Arsenal last weekend.

What at first seemed to be a fever was later diagnosed as acute leukaemia.

"I lost my energy early in the second half and it was very unusual for me," Petrov said.

"But this is life, you see we drank a coffee in London a week ago and now we're talking about things like this."

The Bulgarian has received good wishes from all parts of the world and said the support will help him in his battle against the illness.

"I'll fight, it's clear and I also would like to thank everyone for the support from all around the world."

"But, of course, wishes from Bulgaria encourage me most."

"They give me strength to believe that one day I will recover."
